After a 1982 U.S. Open Qualifier, future Masters Champion Ben Crenshaw stepped off of the 18th green and stated “playing here was like playing in heaven.”

Green Oaks is home to a magnificent Donald Ross designed 18-hole, par 71 Golf Course and maintains some of the best greens in Western Pennsylvania year after year. You will be enchanted by the natural beauty of the Green Oaks’ landscape and superb conditions.

Our grounds crew grooms our greens, tees and fairways to provide Tournament conditions every time you head out to play. The attention to detail in the manicuring of our course and practice facilities is a highlight that makes Green Oaks a special Club.

Layout comes packed with challenging shots, slick sloping greens, large fronts, and the course is a true test for players of all abilities. Additionally, you will see elevation changes, strategic bunkering and a few of the toughest par 3’s around town.

So, whether you are a serious player looking for a stern test or a casual player who enjoys a more relaxing round, you can find it all at Green Oaks. Players can walk or ride a cart.

History of Green Oaks

Green Oaks Country Club has been home to many Pittsburgh golfers since 1905. Originally a 9-hole layout, the Membership in 1913 engaged Donald Ross to layout a new 18-hole golf course after the purchase of an additional 46 acres of property adjacent to the original property. Mr. Ross returned in 1914 to finish placing the traps and bunkers and the course opened in the fall of 1914. Today, we still play 16 of the original holes from the original course layout by Donald Ross.

In 2021, Green Oaks began a multi-year restoration of the golf course, beginning with the installation of a new irrigation system that covers 100% of the playable course area, the installation of a drainage system underneath all of the greens, and the addition of new senior tees, as well as championship tee boxes, which extended the length of the course. This work has now been completed.

In addition, we have expanded our fairways to their original design, we will be rebuilding all of our bunkers on the course, and we will be looking to expand our greens back to their original size over the next several years.

Blue 406 White 371 Green (W) 361 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 5 Challenging and demanding uphill opening hole with a false front.

Hole 2

Blue 378 White 363 Green (W) 359 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 Blind dogleg left, with a downhill second shot, green slopes right to left.

Hole 3

Blue 152 White 145 Green (W) 141 White/Blue Par 3 Green Par 3 This is our shortest and only par 3 on the front 9 surrounded by bunkers.

Hole 4

Blue 371 White 361 Green (W) 278 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 One of our most scenic views. The out of bounds area runs the entire left side of the hole with a blind uphill approach.

Hole 5

Blue 287 White 278 Green (W) 268 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 Short, blind, dogleg right. Drive-able for a longer hitter, green is protected by multiple bunkers.

Hole 6

Blue 383 White 369 Green (W) 357 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 This hole is home to a deceivingly narrow fairway, with a drop off left of the landing zone. An accurate tee shot will bring reward.

Hole 7

Blue 563 White 506 Green (W) 447 White/Blue Par 5 Green Par 5 Provides the best overall view of the course. Long par 5 with a false front green for players attempting to reach the green in two.

Hole 8

Blue 318 White 279 Green (W) 270 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 Short dogleg right, protected by a large out of bounds area. Difficult for players attempting to cut the corner.

Hole 9

Blue 440 White 421 Green (W) 242 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 Most demanding tee shot for the toughest hole on the course. Out of bounds right and left. Long second shot to a green that slopes back to front.

Hole 10

Blue 328 White 311 Green (W) 303 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 Sigh of relief after hole 9, this is by far our easiest hole, though the fairway is guarded heavily with bunkers.

Hole 11

Blue 403 White 394 Green (W) 359 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 Arduous uphill hole, with a blind approach. Alignment aid towards the back of the green. Will need one extra club for approach.

Hole 12

Blue 431 White 418 Green (W) 329 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 Straight hole with a sloping right to left fairway. Pulled approach shots collect in a steep banked bunker near a two tier green.

Hole 13

Blue 480 White 460 Green (W) 409 White/Blue Par 5 Green Par 5 Short par 5 with a narrow fairway and a large green. There is a slight slope on the fairway.

Hole 14

Blue 217 White 205 Green (W) 154 White/Blue Par 3 Green Par 3 First of the three long, challenging, par 3's on the back 9. This hole has a narrow green surrounded by 2 large bunkers.

Hole 15

Blue 504 White 493 Green (W) 324 White/Blue Par 5 Green Par 5 A narrow dogleg right with the famous "Green Oaks" tree in the middle of the fairway that could affect your second shot.

Hole 16

Blue 231 White 220 Green (W) 171 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 Long uphill Par 3 with severely sloped green from back to front.

Hole 17

Blue 208 White 199 Green (W) 191 White/Blue Par 3 Green Par 4 Downhill Par 3 to a green sloped from front to back protected by 3 bunkers.

Hole 18

Blue 357 White 342 Green (W) 338 White/Blue Par 4 Green Par 4 Inviting tee shot to players of all abilities with a tree lined fairway that makes your second shot difficult to determine.
